Man, 23, remanded in correctional centre over alleged attempted rape

A 23-year-old man, Afeez Bioku, who allegedly attempted to rape a 21-year-old woman, was on Tuesday remanded in correctional centre by a Badagry Magistrates’ Court.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Patrick Adekomaiya, said the case file should be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

The Prosecutor, ASP. Akpan Nkem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 13 at about 2:10p.m at No.16, Orji Str., Vespa in Ijanikin area of Lagos.

According to Nkem, the defendant forcefully removed the pant of his victim, with an intent of having carnal knowledge.

“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of the public peace by calling his cousin on phone with an intent of having sex with her.

“The offences contravened Sections 262 and 168 of the Criminal Code, Lagos State, 2015.

The case was adjourned until Feb. 17 for mention.
