The enforcement action was made public via an official post on the Lagos State Government’s Facebook page, following a credible tip-off from a whistleblower.

The building’s occupants were found to be discharging waste at night into surrounding roads, drains, and the nearby lagoon, posing serious public health risks and violating environmental regulations.

Authorities described the incident as a deliberate act capable of spreading communicable diseases and endangering the local ecosystem.

“The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, LSWMO, has continued to demonstrate its dedication to ensuring credible and sustainable wastewater management with the clampdown on a three-storey residential building at Ilasan Lekki peninsula II for a deliberate discharge of untreated wastewater and faecal matter into the public drains, through the use of a pumping machine.

“The Environmental Nuisance was discovered through a complaint received from a whistleblower. The pumping machine, which is used at night is used to pollute the environment, exposing the citizens to communicable diseases, through the discharge of untreated wastewater unto the roads, drains and lagoons,” the agency noted.

The General Manager of LSWMO commended the whistleblower for taking action and encouraged other residents to remain vigilant and report similar violations.

He emphasized that all reports would be handled with strict confidentiality and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting public health and the environment.
