The Lagos State chapter of the National Conscience Party (NCP) has said that the continued detention of the Convener of #RevolutionNow Movement, Mr. Omoyele Sowore by the Federal Government is an indication that Nigeria is heading towards a full blown dictatorship under President MUhammadu Buhari.

Mr. Fatai Ibu-Owo, Lagos NCP Chairman, and Mr. Sonaike Sakiru S, the party’s state Publicity and Publication Director, in a joint statement, lamented that the current administration had been clamping down on the opposition and suppressing human rights.

The party listed Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), Security Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan and Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of Islamic Movement of Nigeria, who had been under detention even as they had obtained several court rulings to the effect that they should be released.

“Currently, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, is detained by operatives of Department of State Security (DSS) for calling for systemic revolution, a revolution which is much desired to project Nigeria forward from its present state of stagnation and undevelopment aggravated by inept, myopic and corrupt practices of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

“Ironically, the same Buhari that now violates democratic doctrines by clamping down on citizen’s rights was the one promoting revolutionary crusade and pro-democracy movement before he came to power.

“He, Bola Tinubu and Lai Muhammed were never arrested for inciting hate speech and revolutionary slogans against the Jonathan’s government,” he statement said.

It added: “The National Conscience Party (NCP) Lagos State, hereby demands immediately and unconditional release of Mr. Omoyele Sowore, Mandates and others from confinement and also urge Nigerians to resist the current authoritarian practices of the government.

“We shall continue to protest on all available platforms for the prompt release of the Leader of Revolutionary Now Movement, Mr. Omoyele Sowore and others.”
