Mrs Ayobola Olupinla, the Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kwara chapter, on Wednesday in Ilorin launched her foundation, to Help Women Foundation.
Olupinla said the foundation’s aim is to help and empower women at the grassroots in all 16 local government areas of the state.
She said that the foundation would collaborate with various organisations in the state and country to actualise its purpose.
“I love giving and this is what prompted me to come up with Help Women Foundation. I believe, it will give me more opportunity to reach out to more people, especially, those that are truly in need of support in rural areas.
“Help Woman Foundation is about the ovulnerable, the poorest of the women, women with disabilities and orphans.
“We will be working with women with disabilities and also orphanages, today also happens to be my 40th birthday and I am doing this for humanity,” she said.
Olupinla called on wealthy individuals in the country and beyond to give more assistance to the less privilege women in the society.
The state Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mrs Sadat Modibbo Kawu, applauded the founder for being kind hearted and urged well meaning people in the society to support the foundation in achieving its objectives.

Also speaking, the General Manager of Radio Kwara, Mr. Kayode Aremu, said that it was a good way to celebrate one’s birthday, noting that there are a lot of women who need support in the society.
“The administration of Gov. AbdulRaham AbdulRazaq is committed to giving voice to the voiceless, therefore we will collaborate with this foundation and develop a programme to give voice to her programmes.
“And we are going to support this foundation in every way possible,” he said.
Dr. Busola Ogunmodede, a Psychotherapist at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, identified poverty as the root cause of mental illnesses in most women.
Ogunmodede said that women need support especially those who are traumatised owing to the loss of a spouse, violence and other vices.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the foundation distributed food items and cash to two selected women in each of the 16 local government areas in the state.
NAN also reports that five persons living with disabilities also benefitted from the charity as well as few orphanage homes.
Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mrs Joy Abolarin, appreciated the foundation and prayed God to support the founder in all her endeavours. (NAN)
