The Kano State Fire Service on Wednesday said it had saved 1,430 lives and goods worth N2.4 billion from 760 fire incidents in the state, from January to December 2018.
The Public Relations Officer of the service, Saidu Mohammed, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Kano.
Mohammed, however, said that 149 lives were lost through collapsed buildings and road accidents, while 319 houses and 441 shops were razed in the fire outbreaks.
He said that property valued at N2.4 billion were destroyed during the period, while the service received 1,052 rescue calls and 210 false alarms from residents.
He said that the use of inferior electrical materials; use of boiling rings; accidents, as well as poor handling of electrical appliances, cooking gas and fireplace were the major causes of the inferno.
The spokesman advised the general public to patronise high quality electrical materials and be careful during Harmattan season in handling anything that involves fire to avert fire outbreaks.
