The Kano State Hisba Board has arrested nine individuals, including eight young girls, for allegedly engaging in prostitution, commonly referred to as “Good Evening Girls.”
Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen, the Board’s Deputy Commander General, announced this information in a statement released to The Punch on Saturday.
He explained that the suspects were apprehended during a special end-of-year operation conducted on Friday night along major streets in Kano metropolis.
“The board has, during its end-of-the-year special operation, stormed some major streets in the metropolis, and our personnel were lucky to apprehend eight young girls and a boy who posed as ‘Good Evening Girls,’” Aminuddeen said.
He explained the activities of the suspects, noting, “These young girls are usually picked by wealthy individuals who take them to places they want, have fun with them and give them money ranging from N5,000 to N30,000.”
Aminuddeen reported that the girls, aged between 15 and 20, admitted to being involved in prostitution for some time.
The operation was carried out on several streets, including Zoo Road, Banana Zoo Road, Ahmadu Bello Way, Lamido Crescent, Tukur Road, Lodge Road, Nassarawa Hospital Road, Magajin Rumfa Road, Sultan Road Nassarawa, and Audu Bako Way.
The Deputy Commander-General stated that the board would continue to conduct raids in these areas to apprehend violators of Shari’a law within the state.
He also urged parents to ensure the proper upbringing of their daughters to help reduce prostitution and other social vices.
Aminuddeen added that once the ongoing investigations are concluded, the suspects will be charged in court for appropriate prosecution.
