Boloebi, the son of Charles Okah, the suspected mastermind of the 2010 Independence Day bombing, on Wednesday appeared in court to testify in favour of his father.
The young Okah arrived the premises of the Federal High Court, Abuja at about 9 am in the company of relations and a lawyer.
Prison officials later brought his father, Charles to the courtroom shortly before his case came up for hearing.
At 11.15 am, the presiding judge, Gabriel Kolawole, called on the young Okah to enter the witness box for cross-examination by the prosecution counsel, Alex Iziyon, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Before he as cross-examined, Boloebi tendered the receipts of his fees to the University of Kansas, the United States, a photocopy of his international passport, a copy of his Delta Airline ticket to the United States as well as a copy of the student visa granted him by the American Embassy.
While testifying, the young Okah, who currently resides in Toronto, Canada, told the court he studied Visual Arts at the University of Kansas for three years and was given 13,000 U.S dollars as fees and living expenses by his dad.
He also spoke extensively about the role of his father in his education and the upkeep of his family.
However, during cross-examination, Mr. Iziyon said based on the fees schedule of school fees tendered before the court, the total fees payable by the young man stood at $19,470.
With additional $1,653 to cover airfare, he said the young Okah required a total of $21,123.
The lawyer argued that the figures made available in the court did not tally with what the father claimed to have given to him.
Mr. Iziyon also indicated that at the time Boloebi left for further studies in the US, nothing incriminating was found on him, hence his ability to leave the country.
When the accused, Mr. Okah finally entered the witness box at exactly 11:45 am, he tendered four exhibits to the court before he was cross-examined.
The exhibits, which were tendered on behalf of the accused by his counsel, Samuel Zibiri, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) included a proof of evidence by Henry Okah in 2008, an ECOWAS international passport for Henry Okah, a photocopy of an affidavit by Henry Okah provided in 2011 and a brochure titled ‘customized docking systems’, a software application.
After Mr. Okah took on several questions from the prosecution team and based on an application by Mr. Iziyon, the case was adjourned until October 24.
Speaking to The NEXT EDITION on behalf of the prosecuting counsel, Bello Abdul, said that there was nothing serious took place in the court.
“Charles Okah’s son was duly cross-examined by the prosecution counsel and everything went on very well,” he said.
“The case has been adjourned until October 24, after the prosecution panel applied for an adjournment. Charles Okah will be duly cross-examined on the said adjourned date,” Mr. Abdul concluded.
On his part, Mr. Zibiri said his team is awaiting the cross-examination of his client by the prosecution team and that he is satisfied with what transpired in the court during the day.
Charles, who is also the elder brother of the leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Henry Okah is standing trial alongside Nwabueze Obi, on charges bordering on conspiracy and terrorism.
Justice Kolawole had earlier in June this year, struck out charges of treason brought by the Federal Government against Charles Okah and Nwabueze Obi.
Mr. Okah and Obi Nwabueze, were first arraigned before the court on December 7, 2010 over their alleged involvement in the October 1, 2010, bomb blast.
