A suspected motorcycle thief in Makurdi, the Benue state capital, has been burnt to death after he attempted to rob a commercial motorcyclist, popularly called Okada man, at gun point.

The jungle justice took place on Tuesday night, near the Art Council junction in Makurdi metropolis.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspect had paid the commercial motorcyclist at about 11p.m to convey him somewhere along Geroge Akume way in Makurdi.

It was learnt that on their way, the suspect pulled out a gun behind the motorcyclist and ordered him to head to wherever he directed him.

Luck however, ran out on the suspect when the motorcyclist sighted some vigilante ahead of them and rode straight into their midst.

It was reported that at this point, the suspected thief took to his heels but was pursued by some youths to the art council area where they caught up with him and killed him on the spot.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident, saying it happened about 11p.m on Tuesday.

Anene said the suspect who disguised as a passenger was overpowered by the rider when he attempted to dispossess him of his motorcycle at gunpoint.

She told newsmen that some youths near Balcony, on Otukpo road, where the incident occured, pursued the suspect to the point where he was killed and burnt him to ashes before the arrival of the police.
