The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano Command, has assured adequate security of candidates during the conduct of the forthcoming Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination in the state.
Mr. Abu Abdu-Tambuwal, the State Commandant gave the assurance while briefing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Kano on Thursday.
He said that the NSCDC, in partnership with JAMB would safeguard the candidates during the examination.
According to him, the command has made all necessary arrangements toward ensuring successful conduct of the forthcoming JAMB examination, scheduled to commence on June 18, 2021.
The commandant said that the NSCDC had deployed 75 personnel to the 35 designated JAMB centres in Kano with the aim of ensuring safety and protecting JAMB materials.
“We want the conduct of the JAMB examination to be an exemplary one. In the past, we have arrested some groups of people that seek patronage from the candidates to impersonate,” he said.
Abdu-Tambuwal noted that NSCDC personnel would conduct a rigorous search on candidates toward ensuring that weapons and other prohibited items were not brought to the examination centres.
“We have five mobile vehicles with our personnel that would be patrolling all the 35 designated centres with the aim of curtailing any challenge that may arise,” he said.
Abdu-Tambuwal explained that the command had inaugurated a Rapid Response Unit which contained 25 personnel of the command as directed by the Commandant-General of the Corps, Ahmad Audi-Abubakar.
“The Commandant-General has directed all formations in the country to form a rapid response unit, which will be moving around for 24 hours, with a view to confronting challenges,” he said.
He said that the personnel of the inaugurated Rapid Response Unit would undergo a rigorous training at the Nigerian Army Barracks in Kano and would thereafter provide security in primary and secondary schools in the state.
According to him, the corps would provide the new formation with all the needed equipment and logistics toward achieving the set objectives. (NAN)
