The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is set to probe alleged voting of some underage in last Saturday council polls in Kano State.
A panel which will commence work next week has been set up.
This was made known on Friday by the INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu at a workshop on preparation for election in Lagos.
Reports were rife that children below the voting age of 18 voted during the Kano council election.
INEC had since absolved itself of complicity in the crime, claiming that it was not responsible for the conduct of the election.
The election was conducted by Kano State Independent Electoral Commission.
Critics have however described the argument of INEC as untenable, reasoning that it was responsible for registering voters, hence should be held responsible for registering children.
One of the strong critics of INEC over the development is the leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbodiyan, on Wednesday, the party said INEC had proved to be completely unreliable and ccould not be trusted in the discharge of its duties.

It warned INEC that Nigerians would not accept anything short of credible, free and fair general election in 2019.
It stated further that rather than probe the alleged fraud in the election where underage were allowed to vote, INEC was trying to protect itself.
“While we now hold the statement by INEC as part of our strong evidence of irregularities and violations in the elections, we charge the commission to redeem its name by immediately reviewing and sanitising its voter registers in affected states, particularly, Kano and Katsina, as that is the only way it can demonstrate its dependability to Nigerians,” PDP said.
