The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salami Bolaji, has described the recent fire incident at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC’s) Headquarters, Akure, as an unfortunate ococcurrence.

The CP made the statement when he visited the scene of the fire incident on Friday.

Recall that 5,141 card readers were said to have been destroyed in the incident which gutted two container loads of INEC card readers and other stationeries.

According to the CP, the Police command, in conjunction with INEC management and the Ondo State Fire Service, will investigate the election in the state.

Bolaji assured all law-abiding citizens on the state of adequate security during the poll.

He said that people should not to entertain any fear as the command was fully prepared to give the state a kind of police protection never seen in Ondo State.

He, however, warned those harbouring criminal ideas, before, during or after the election and electioneering campaigns, to jettison such ideas.

He further warned that any criminals apprehended, “should be ready to sit tight at any Correctional Service detention camps in the state’’.
