The governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, said his date with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday would not allow him attend the swearing in of the state’s Governor-Elect, Kayode Fayemi.

Fayose was reacting to Fayemi’s invitation to attend the event on Tuesday.

He had written the EFCC that he would report to its office immediately after his tenure expires, to be probed over alleged financial malpractices.

Fayose who spoke at a press conference on Thursday said he also did not want to play into the hands of some politicians who might want to take advantage of the situation and harass him.

He said he had nothing personal against Fayemi.

“If I should attend the programme, some politicians might use the chance to harass me, even when they are not sent by Fayemi.

“This will further destroy (our) relationship. Issues between me and Fayemi are not personal. I have been cooperating with the committee set up by Fayemi on this transition.

“Again, I have to be in EFCC office in Abuja on Tuesday. But, let me say clearly that I am ready to appear before any panel set up by incoming government to probe my administration,” he said.
