The former Senate President, Sen. David Mark, has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to avoid declaring elections inconclusive.
Mark, who spoke to journalists in his Otukpo residence said that such a development was not healthy for the society because the commission spends additional resources to conduct supplementary elections.
Mark also said that inconclusive elections stressed both politicians and the electorate thereby making them (electorate) to be disillusioned.
He disclosed that the concept of inconclusive election was strange and unknown to Nigerian politicians adding that it was not in the constitution.
He emphasized that the commission should do everything possible to avoid declaring elections inconclusive because it was not healthy for the society.

”If declaration of inconclusive elections is allowed to stay, it will rather encourage some politicians not to sell themselves to the electorate but wait to disrupt elections so that it will be declared inconclusive.
“This inconclusive election is strange to us. INEC has wasted resources, parties are stressed all because some miscreants decided to disrupt election. This election should have been concluded long ago.
”I advice people to go into elections devoid of violence. If you win your election through the proper will of the electorate, you will earn their respect but if you enter office through the back door, you will have tough times,” he said.
The former senate president who advised politicians to strive to ensure that they win elections through free, fair and credible means also stated that those who stand for elections should be ready to accept the outcome in good faith.
