This is as eight other states have been put under watch.

The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, made the declaration just as the governor of Kogi, one of the affected states, Yahaya Bello, disclosed the efforts being made to assist the victims of the disaster.

The governor who spoke with journalists said no fewer than 33 camps had been put in place to accommodate the victims of the flooding disaster in the state.

He said his government had been proactive on the issue of the flooding by sensitizing the people on the danger.

He also said they evacuated them to high ground before they were affected.

He also stressed that his state was one of the worst victims of the disaster.

“We have created over 33 camps in Kogi State. As I speak with you, between nine to ten local governments are under water, you can imagine the pressure on our resources.

”So, we are doing our best in collaboration with federal agencies and security agencies to make sure that we evacuate them to high grounds, IDP camps and provide security to them and relief materials including medicals,” he said.
