Fire scare: Senate suddenly adjourns sitting

Following the scare of a fire outbreak, the Senate on Thursday suddenly stopped its plenary and adjourned till Tuesday.

Smoke suddenly enveloped the chamber and the air conditioners stopped working.

Although the cause of the fire was unknown as at the time of going to press, it was gathered that the smoke fame from a technical room at the basement of the National Assembly complex.

Following the development, Senator Ibrahim Gobi called for an adjournment of plenary.

He said: “The environment is not conducive and as we can see, the air-conditioners are not working. So, I propose we adjourn to Tuesday.’’

Senate President Bukola Saraki approved the request.

He said, “I can see what you presented to the effect that the environment is not conducive and as such I think we should adjourn to Tuesday when the chamber will be conducive.’’
