The over one month industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is to continue as yet another meeting between the union and Federal Government on Monday night ended without an agreement.
According to the Minister of Labour Employment and Productivity, Chris Ngige, who led the government representatives, the meeting will reconvene on December 17, 2018.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Ngige disclosed that their discussions had centred on outstanding areas of the memorandum of action agreed upon by both parties on the lingering matter in 2007.
According to him, there were shortfalls which the government is working on so that it would translate ultimately to payment of the striking lecturers.
He said that a memo has been raised to the accountant-general of the federation to source for funds to that effect adding that the meeting is adjourned to Monday 17th December 2018 for them to get reports on those issues discussed.

The minister also disclosed that a committee will be set up by the federal government to interface with state governors on the funding of state universities.
ASUU President, Biodu Ogunyemi who led the unions’ delegation, on his own part said that they had nothing to report to the striking lecturers on the meeting until the promises made to them are fulfilled.
The meeting which started at about 5.30pm held at the Minister’s Conference Hall Ministry of Labour, Employment and Productivity.
