Speaker of Ogun House of Assembly, Mr. Olakunle Oluomo, has urged social media users in the state to be wary of the antics of purveyors of fake news on social media.

Oluomo, who spoke during plenary in Abeokuta on Tuesday, noted that misinformation, in whatever form, was capable of creating fear in the minds of the people, adding that it was also detrimental to peace and progress of the state and the country at large.

He condemned the rising spate of falsehood under the guise of news stories for public consumption, especially broadcast messages.

The speaker called on the people of the state to always verify the contents of social media reports before conveying them to others.

According to him, this will assist in giving credible information to security agencies and in responding to the rising spate of insecurity currently bedeviling the country.
