Monaco midfielder Cesc Fabregas has revealed that his 95-year-old great-grandmother has beaten coronavirus.

Fabregas previously stated that his great-grandmother had been infected with the disease along with 70 per cent of those in her nursing home in Barcelona.

On Wednesday Fabregas gave a hugely positive update as he revealed that his great-grandmother has overcome the virus.

Fabregas tweeted: ‘She has overcome coronavirus at 95 years of age. Yesterday the test came out negative!

‘My great-grandmother is a super heroine but none of this would have been possible had it not been for the help of the nurses and doctors who are giving their lives at each moment so that we can all be better and live a little bit better during these difficult times.’

Fabregas has offered to defer his entire salary for four months in order to help Monaco cope with the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea player is also set to take a 30 per cent pay cut.

As a consequence Monaco will save £2million over the next four months and won’t have to pay £500,000 to Fabregas.
