Former Super Eagles defender, Ajibade Babalade is dead.

He was aged 48 years.

Ajibade was said to have taken ill onThursday and was taken to the University College Hospital Ibadan where he died on Friday.

The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed the death and mourned the deceased in a post on its official Twitter handle.

“We are sad to announce the shock demise of former @NGSuperEagles defender Ajibade Babalade. Babalade died of cardiac arrest today in Ibadan. May his gentle soul Rest In Peace. Our prayers are with his family,” the football body wrote.

The late defender, fondly called Kunde, was a member of the Bronze winning Super Eagles squad to the 1992 African Cup of Nations in Senegal.

He was part of the Shooting Stars team which lost in the final of the then African Champions Cup to Zamalek of Egypt in 1996.

He played for Ivorien club, Africa Sports, Anyang LG Cheetahs of Korea, SK Sturm Graz in Austria and Mohun Bagan AC of India.

He was named the Team Manager of 3SC in 2008, a position he held till 2014.
