The Senate Minority Leader and immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has declared his resolve to commit his life to serving humanity, in appreciation of the benevolence he has enjoyed from God, friends, family and people of the state in his years in public service
Akpabio has served as a Commissioner, Governor and now a Senator of the Federal Republic.
Speaking on Saturday at a dinner in his honour organised by the Godswill Akpabio Law House in collaboration with Akwa Ibom North-West Lawyers Coalition in Uyo, which culminated in the presentation of the book, “Briefcase on Electoral Laws and Practice in Nigeria” the former governor acknowledged capacity building and honesty as the beacon of every developed society.
Sharing how his law career was almost truncated due to inability to pay his Law School fees, Senator Akpabio remarked that he was challenged in his time as governor, to prevent a re-occurrence of such fate when he donated laptop computers and cash grant to Law students from the state in the various campuses of the Nigerian Law School.
He commended the organisers of the dinner for the honour, promising to do more in supporting youths of the state to accomplish their dreams and aspirations, by ensuring laws made by the National Assembly geared toward sustaining a national consensus in promoting peace, citizens’ empowerment and good governance.

Voicing his belief that the young lawyers would make great impact in the profession, the Senate Minority Leader while recommending the new book to Law houses, judges, politicians and stakeholders in electoral matters made a case for speedy hearing of pre-election matters, to save public officers the trauma of spending a chunk of their tenure in courts.
Describing Godswill Akpabio as a rare breed in leadership, the chairman on the occasion, Theophilus Oyesanya SAN, in relaying experiences of over thirty years of regular visits to the state paid credence to the uncommon transformation the state attained in the Akpabio’s era.
He said the rest of the nation was yet to comprehend Akwa Ibom’s infrastructural quantum leap.
Oyesanya thanked the group for the deserving honour on Senator Akpabio, whose investment in the future of Nigerians through the free and compulsory education policy of his government coul not be quantified.
He urged the law house not to betray the confidence of their benefactor by involving in what he termed shabby legal practices.
Leading other lawyers to present mementos to Senator Akpabio and wife, Unoma, the Managing Partner of the Godswill Akpabio Law House, Patrick Umoh thanked the Senate Minority Leader for his laudable contribution to the acclaim the state had attained on several fronts.
He dedicated their strides in the legal profession to his benevolence and interest in the next generation.
Umoh who recognized Akpabio as the Principal Partner of the law house and grand patron of the district’s lawyers coalition promised to justify the confidence reposed in them by making useful contributions to Law practice.
He promised they would also serve as voice to the oppressed.
He thanked the former First Lady, Mrs. Unoma Akpabio, for accommodating the law house.
