The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State over the weekend admitted a new member, Esther Ifeyinwa Okorie, a medical professional, into the fold.
Okorie’s entry into the party was described by party leaders as a plus and an uncommon favour considering her antecedents in her chosen profession.
The party elders and leaders, who received her into the party in Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area of the state capital on Saturday, said she has joined over 50,000 voters in the locality for the party.
The chairman of the party in Ward 9, her immediate constituency, Hon. Austin Mgbeze, supported by the former Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Peter Onwusanya, the former chairman of the Transition Committee of the council area, Chief Paschal Onukwu, the former council chairman, Hon. Azuka Okolo and other leaders, endorsed her admission into the party leadership.
Mgbeze, while receiving her, informed the large number of people who turned up for the event, that the PDP was a great party and a family. He said: “PDP is a family in Delta. It is a party to beat in any election in the state. You are right to have joined PDP. From your unblemished record abroad, you are a plus to PDP Ward 9. Remain in the party and be focused as you pursue your political aspiration.”
He said the executives of tbe party met over her case and resolved that she should be officially admitted with full rights and privileges.
In her acceptance speech, Okorie thanked party leaders and all members of the party and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in her even as she pledged to contribute immensely to the progress and growth of the party.

She spoke glowingly about her party saying “I am aware that Ward 9 is the hope of PDP in Oshimili South, which harbours the state capital. I am happy to join PDP to continue to build Delta State. I know this, I receive it and I will treasure my party’s registration card.”

Okorie also seized the opportunity to express her profound gratitude to her family for their unquantifiable support, adding that she would continue to make them in her newfound area of interest.

The event was anchored by Hon. Victor Okocha. In attendance was the Vice Chairman, Mrs Ify Ogbogu and many others.
