The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tuesday, issued a Certificate of Return to Bassey Etim, as the senator representing Akwa Ibom North-east Senatorial District.
Mr. Etim is taking over from Bassey Albert, a former commissioner for finance with the Akwa Ibom State Government.
The Federal High Court sitting in Uyo had on February 27, nullified the election of Mr. Albert as the senator representing Akwa Ibom North-east, also known as Uyo Senatorial District.
Justice Fatun Riman of the Federal High Court II, Uyo, had in his ruling ordered INEC to immediately issue a certificate of return to Mr. Etim.
The court also ordered the National Assembly to swear in Mr. Etim, a former member of the House of Representatives from Uyo Federal Constituency, as senator for Uyo Senatorial District.
The court further directed Mr. Albert to refund the emoluments he received to the coffers of the federal government.
The court faulted the primary election that produced Mr. Albert also known as OBA, as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his subsequent election to the Senate.
Mr. Etim had dragged Mr. Albert, INEC and the PDP to the court, alleging that he was wrongly substituted
