The Federal Government has directed health service officials and other relevant agencies at the ports and other points of entry to the country, to be more alert, ensuring that all passengers coming into the country are properly screened.
The Director, Media and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs. Boade Akinola, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.
According to her, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Abdulaziz Mashi, gave the directive in Lagos during an inspection of health facilities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Mashi, had inspected the facilities in the company of some directors from the ministry and officials from Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.
Recall that some sections of media had reported of a new Ebola case in the country recently. However, the claim was refuted by the federal government.

The statement noted that the inspection was to ascertain the level of preparedness in case of any Ebola threat in Lagos.
Mashi, who noted with satisfaction that the “Thermal Cameras” used to screen incoming passengers into the country were functioning perfectly, restated government’s commitment to increasing the number of cameras as well as deploying more manpower to cope with the heavy traffic at the airport.
He also commended the efforts of Lagos State Government in the areas of preparedness and surveillance against the Ebola virus.
According to him, the Federal Ministry of Health and Lagos State Ministry of Health had been working together to forestall any disease getting into the country.
While calling for continuous collaboration, the Perm Sec. assured that there was no cause for alarm as there had been increased and continuous surveillance ever since the reported outbreak of Ebola in the DR Congo.
