The Department of State Services on Thursday finally released rights activist and convener of #RevolutionNow protest Mr. Omoyele Sowore and his co-detainee, Adebayo Bakare.

They were freed hours after Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, gave the DSS a 24-hour ultimatum to release them.

According to Sowore’s counsel, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, who confirmed their release, they were freed at about 7p.m on Thursday.

He also confirmed that the DSS had paid the N100,000 cost awarded against it by Justice Ojukwu for making the court to adjourn till Friday for frivolous reasons on Thursday.

Sowore and Bakare were arrested on August 3, for allegedly planning a violent overthrow of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

They had called for a nationwide ‘revolution’ protest against ‘bad governance.’

The duo are facing charges of treasonable felony, cyberstalking the president and money laundering, among other charges.

They were first granted in bail in October, but the DSS refused to release them until a visibly angry Justice Ojukwu handed down a 24 hour ultimatum to the department.

Sowore, who contested in the presidential election of February 23, as candidate of the African Action Congress is also the publisher of Sahara Reporters, an online news platform.
