The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Monday, went ahead with the process of recalling the lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye.
This is despite a court order which, last week, directed that the “status quo” should be maintained.
Interpreting the court order, Melaye’s lawyer, Festus Keyamo, said it meant that the recall process should be suspended pending the determination of the case before it.
However, on Monday, INEC, in continuation of the recall process, posted the notice of verification for the recall of the lawmaker.
INEC, in the notice, said the verification would hold across all polling units in the senatorial district on August 19.
It would be recalled that some aggrieved members of Melaye’s constituency, had commenced a recall process based on alleged non-performance.
No fewer than 188,588 registered voters in Kogi West signed the petition.
The 188,588 signatories met the preliminary requirement that one-half of the number of registered voters in a constituency was enough to begin a recall process of a lawmaker.
