Delta Queens women’s hockey club of Asaba on Saturday in Abuja defeated Plateau Queens of Jos 2-1 to emerge winners of the 2021 National Super League.
In their classification game played at the astro-turf pitch of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, the Delta Queens took the lead after just 12 minutes through Beauty Irame’s field goal.
The Delta Queens who won the group after five matches extended their lead in the fourth quarter.
Irame made it 2-0 after another field goal area in the 50th minute.
Five minutes later, Susan Bulus scored for Plateau United to reduce the tally.
The Delta Queens had topped the six-team women League after winning three games and drawing two for 11 points.
They had scored 10 goals without conceding.
The Plateau Queens had finished second after the group matches with three wins and two draws for 11 points also, scoring eight goals and conceding none.
Kada Queens who finished third in the group matches maintained their spot with a 2-0 win over fourth-placed Yobe Queens.
Heartland also mainta8ned their fifth place with a 2-0 defeat of IGP Babes in the 5th and 6th place classification match.
Speaking after their match, the Head Coach of Delta Queens, Ade Jacobs, said his team won because they were stronger.

“We have a strong team, but I am overwhelmed with the way the tournament was organised.
“However, it was a tough game for us and I thank God we won our last match to emerge winners of this league,” he said.
NAN reports that Delta Queens have by their victory secured a place in the Africa Cup for Club Champions (ACCC) taking place in Malawi in September.
A total of twelve teams took part in the Super League, with six teams in the women’s competition and six teams in the men’s category.
The competition, organised annually by the Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF), started on July 3 and ended on Saturday.
It is aimed at enhancing the sport’s development and also serves as an avenue to select the country’s representatives at the ACCC taking place in Malawi in September.(NAN)
