With the rising figures of carriers of the COVID-19, the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Monday announced its plans to begin a clampdown on producers and sellers of fake hand sanitisers in Ebonyi State.
Dr. Isaac Kolawole, the Ebonyi State Coordinator of NAFDAC, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen during a visit to the state’s vocational college at Abakaliki, to inspect hand sanitisers and face masks produced there.
Kolawole, who commended efforts of the state government in the war against Coronavirus, approved the usage of the sanitisers and face masks produced by the college.
He commended the management of the college for the hygienic environment, branding and quality of the sanitisers and face masks, adding that they met the NAFDAC’s standard.
He said: “I have critically assessed all the face masks and sanitisers. They all met our standards. I hereby declare that they should be used by people, with efforts expedited to ensure these products get registered soon.”

Adaeze Nwaji, Special Assistant to the Governor on Vocational Education, in her response, said the government embarked on the production of hand sanitisers and face masks to assist the people that might not afford them.
“The college embarked on this production of the hand sanitisers and face masks as its token of support to the state government in the fight against COVID-19.
“No doubt, our governor has shown sincerity of purpose and tenacity in his fight against Coronavirus in the state. This is evident in the measures he has taken so far.”
Nwaji further expressed optimism that the college would soon commence production of ventilators that would be used in various quarantine centres in the state.
