A 36-year- old man Stephen Chinwuko, who allegedly beat up his house wife has been before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Chinwuko, who resides at No. 17, Seriki Aro St., Ikeja, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge bordering on assault which he committed under alcoholic influence.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate A. A. Fashola granted the accused bail in the sum of N300, 000 with one surety.

Fashola said the surety should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government (LASG).

The chief magistrate also directed the prosecutor to verify the address of the surety.

He adjourned the case until Feb. 13, for mention.

Earlier, the prosecution had alleged that the accused assaulted his 38-year-old housewife, one Mrs Josephine Chinwuko, following a disagreement.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Michael Unah, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 26, 2018 at 5.00 p. m. at his residence.

Unah said the accused was said to have been under alcoholic influence when he carried out the action.

The prosecutor said that the accused assaulted the complainant by giving her a serious blow thereby causing her bodily harm on the face.

The prosecutor said, “The accused held a party with his friends at his residence and all of them later went out.

“The complainant called the accused on the phone later that he had a visitor at home waiting.’’

The prosecutor said that the accused assaulted his wife for opening the gate for the visitor to enter his premises.

The prosecutor said that the offences committed by the accused contravened Sections 172 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, (Revised).
