A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday rejected an application by former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to appear before it as a defendant in a money laundering trial.

The former minister sought to appear in the suit filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Mohammed Belgore, a senior advocate of Nigeria, and Abubakar Suleiman, a former minister of national planning.

She also sought that the court should compel the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to facilitate her return to the country for the case.

Justice Rilwan Aikawa, however turned down the application.

He dismissed it as a “misuse of court processes.”

According to him, granting the application would amount to obstructing the trial which Alison-Madueke was facing in the United Kingdom.
