The Ogun State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp, Clement Oladele, has confirmed that three persons died, while 11 persons were injured when a commercial bus plunged into Ogun River on the Ijebu-Ode/Sagamu Expressway in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The accident, which involved a yellow Mazda E220 commercial bus, was said to have occurred on Thursday at 10:32 am due to alleged mechanical fault.
A statement issued by the sector commander said, “A total of 14 people comprising five male adults and nine female adults were involved in the fatal crash.
“The people injured were 11, comprising five males and six females.
“A total of three people died in the crash made up of one male and two females.”
According to him, the bus took off from Ijebu-Ode motor park heading to Lagos, but the driver lost control and plunged into the River in Ijebu-Ode.
“The suspected cause of the crash is mechanical deficiency.
“The injured victims were rescued to the General Hospital Ijebu-Ode, while corpses were deposited at the same Ijebu-Ode General Hospital Mortuary,” he added.
The FRSC boss condoled the families of the crash victims even as he urged vehicle operators to put their vehicles in good condition before any trip and to be cautious during the rainy season to avoid road traffic crash.
