The Wife of Ebonyi Governor, Mrs Rachael Umahi, has called on the three tiers of government to pay priority attention to children’s welfare.

Umahi made the call on Thursday in a statement issued by her Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Donatus Owo, to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebration.

According to her, safety, education, entrepreneurship, justice, equity and quality future for children should occupy a pride of place in government’s policies and programmes.

She advised security agencies to provide adequate security around common places, where children converge regularly.

The governor’s wife called on parents to be vigilant and show commitment to matters concerning their children and wards.

“This day is usually an opportunity for introspection to assess and possibly review the responsibilities of parents and leaders to the young ones.

“These children reflect our future and should be properly cared for.

“The reports of insecurity, rape, mindless abduction of school children, secret practice of female genital mutilation, child labour and other violence against children are heart-rending and call for concern.

“To our children, I assures you of my avowed commitment to keep intervening for you,” Umahi said. (NAN)
