President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday presided over the first Federal Executive Council Meeting, FEC, since inaugurating his cabinet with a reminder to ministers of the huge expectations of Nigerians.
He said the prosperity, safety and security of the over 200 million Nigerians was their responsibility in the next four years and so they must not fail Nigerians who have entrusted governance in their hands.
Buhari admonished them to work with passion in line with the oath of office they took and the policies of his administration.
In a brief address before the meeting went into closed-doors, the President reminded the ministers that the Next Level focus of the administration would be on the tripod of “securing the lives and property of Nigerians, creating a diversified and inclusive economy that will bring prosperity to all and installing governance and accountability in our systems and processes, thereby eliminating corruption.”
Therefore, he said “all ideas and projects that will contribute to achieving these goals shall be foremost in our deliberations.”
President Buhari, reminded the ministers that they were part of his cabinet on merit, and restated the need to work in harmony with each other.
“Communication and team work are the hallmarks of success”, he said.
The President explained that he created, merged and split some ministries in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of infrastructure delivery programmes and projects.
He directed, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha to forward a detailed draft of the responsibilities of all the 43 ministers to him for approval by.
