Boris Johnson’s resignation was seen as crucial.
British Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, resigns from office making him the second high ranking British official to quit his job within hours.
Brexit Secretary, David Davis, resigned his post late Sunday.
Both resignations come a few days after the Prime Minister, Mrs. Theresa May, agreed to a deal on UK’s post-Brexit relationship with the EU.
Addressing parliament on Monday, Mrs. May, acknowledged that there was a split in her cabinet.
She said of the ministers who left: “We do not agree about the best way of delivering our shared commitment to honouring the result of the referendum.”
She used the opportunity to reiterate her government’s commitment to pulling Britain out of the European Union, insisting that “we will deliver the Brexit people voted for.”
The decision of Mr. Johnson, a former mayor of London, to back Brexit, was seen as crucial when the issue was taken to a referendum two years ago.
He was a leading figure among those who supported Britain’s exit, painting a rosy picture of the country’s future outside the EU.
