Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC) have met and agreed to work together to defeat President Muhamadu Buhari during the 2019 general elections.

The meeting, which took place in Abuja on Monday, also featured the signing of a memorandum to produce a single presidential candidate for the poll.

Members of PDP, who attended the meeting were: Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel and Senator Ben Obi.

The R-APC delegation was led by Buba Galadima and Senator Dino Melaye.

Speaking shortly after the meeting, Senator Obi said the parties met to sign a memorandum for a coalition that will take over power from Mr. Buhari in 2019.

“The 2019 election will be a battle between light and darkness. The coalition is the light and we have come together to rescue Nigeria from darkness,” Mr. Obi said.

The PDP chieftain said by the signing of the memorandum, a strong signal has been sent to the ruling APC and the international community that the coalition will take over power in 2019.
