BREAKING INEC office on fire in Imo

The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ngor Okpuala local government area of Imo state has been set ablaze.

Persons suspected to be political thugs reportedly invaded the premises while collation of results of the governorship and state assembly elections was going.

According to an INEC official, who does not want to be named, the suspected thugs broke into the place around 2pm and overpowered the local security guard there before setting the place on fire.

Policemen, however quickly moved in and guarded the electoral materials while the officials where taken to the INEC head office in Imo, where they are currently collating the results.

Francis Ezeonu, Imo resident electoral commissioner, told TheCable that the election was compromised in the area.
