BREAKING: Former SGF, Pius Anyim Quizzed, Released by EFCC

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Pius Anyim, was Saturday, detained briefly by the Economic and Finacial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

This newspaper learnt Mr. Anyim, was at the office of the anti-graft agency early in the day and was kept till some minutes ago when he was allowed to go home.

A source, who pleaded not to be named said, “He was invited by the EFCC and he went there this morning.”

Asked why Mr. Anyim was invited, the source continued, “He was a former public office holder and the government is going after those who served in the previous administration.

“He is at home as I speak to you. He was not detained. The just interviewed him and allowed him to go home.”

Attempts to confirm the arrest and release of the former SGF failed as calls to EFCC’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, were not answered.

Mr. Anyim is a former President of the Nigerian Senate.
