Negotiations are already going on to seek the release of all the school girls in the captivity of the terrorists group, Boko Haram.
President Muhammadu Buhari made this known on Monday during his meeting with US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, who is on a tour of some countries in Africa.
Tillerson arrived Nigeria on Monday and was billed to spend some few hours before returning to the United States to attend to some other urgent matters.
The negotiation for the release of the girls, Buhari said, was in concert with some international organisations.
He explained that the government had refused to use force to rescue the girls, considering the danger they might be made to go through.
The decision to negotiate their return, the president said, was to make sure they returned alive.
“We are trying to be careful. It is better to get our daughters back alive,” the president said.
It would be recalled that 110 schoolgirls were captured by Boko Haram in Dapchi, Yobe State, on February 19, 2018.
Some of the Chibok school girls captured by Boko Haram in April 2014, are still in captivity.
During the meeting with Tillerson, Buhari expressed appreciation for the assistance by the United States over the battle against insurgency.
He said even though Nigerian forces were doing well, there was need for assistance in terms of training and equipment.
He expressed his commitment to securing the country.
Tillerson spoke about the importance of Nigeria to the United States, saying the government was ready to offer its support.
“You have our support in your challenges. We will also support opportunities to expand the economy, commercial investments, and peaceful polls in 2019,” he said.
He also praised the Buhari administration over the fight against corruption.
