Five soldiers were killed in Gwoza area of Borno State when their vehicle stepped on Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted in Pridang-Bita Road by the terrorists group, Boko Haram.
The troops of 271 Task Force Battalion were fighting through an ambush staged by the insurgents when the incident occurred.
Army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Texas Chukwu, confirmed the incident.

His words: “Sadly, five military personnel paid the supreme price as a result of the Improvised Explosive Device attack.”
Chukwu, however, said the troop killed many of the terrorists and rescued no fewer than nine persons made up of two aged men, two females and five children.
He said some of the insurgents escaped with gunshot wounds.
The clearance operation, he said, was carried out in Jaje, Angwa Audu, Major Ali, Dabu Abdullahi, Dabu Wulkaro and Gori Jaji villages.
