The Senate on Tuesday visited President Muhammadu Buhari to intimate him with its resolutions on actions that needed to be taken over the New Year Day killing in Benue State by suspected herdsmen.
The resolutions were taken to find a lasting solution to the herdsmen-farmer clashes and general security problem in the country.
President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, led his colleagues on the visit.
Speaking to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa over the visit, Saraki said: “It’s just a follow up, you know I was here with the Speaker two nights ago. Today is our first day in session, and if you followed, we debated the issue of the unfortunate incident in Benue…
“We came here to brief the president on some of our resolutions, particularly concerning security.”
It would be recalled that the Senate, like the House of Representatives discussed the Benue killings at its plenary session upon resumption from recess on Tuesday.
After agreeing on a number of steps to solve the problems of attacks by herdsmen, Saraki stressed the need to inform the president about some of the decisions.
Saraki, during the debate of the killings at the Senate told his colleagues: “Our resolution is that some of our discussions here need to be conveyed to Mr. President. We appreciate his actions for calling us and giving us a brief on what has happened. Hence, we owe it to him to tell him what we have discussed and the seriousness with which we have taken the issue.

“It is a wake-up call for him and it is a wake-up call for us. It is a wake up call for this government. We must address the issue of security. We cannot continue to allow this violence to keep going on from one state to another. Therefore, something needs to be done.”
One of the major steps towards resolving the crisis, according to the Senate, was to ensure justice.
The Senate said to ensure justice, those guilty of the killings in Benue State had to be apprehended and brought to book.
It therefore gave the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, 14 days to apprehend the killers and bring them to book.
The Senate also called on the president to act on the issue in question.
