Sen. Douye Diri on Tuesday clinched the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the Nov. 16 Bayelsa governorship election.
He garnered 561 votes to beat his closest rival Mr. Timi Alaibe who polled 365 votes in the primary election held at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre, Yenagoa.
Twenty one aspirants had contested for the governorship ticket.
Mr. Keniebi Okoko came third with 142 votes.
The results were declared by Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba, Chairman of the Party’s Electoral Committee for the state.
Diri was a member of the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019, where he represented the people of Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma federal constituency of the state.
He was later elected as the Senator representing Bayelsa central senatorial district during the 2019 general election.
