The governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, held a World Press Conference at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, where he made some shocking remarks about his main opponent for the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship ticket, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
From all indications, Ambode has fallen out with his political godfather, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Ambode spoke like a man who has exhausted all efforts to convince the leadership of the APC to have a rethink about dumping him for Sanwo-Olu, the party’s preferred candidate.
He threw caution to the wind, fighting dirty as he alleged that Sanwo-Olu was unfit to become the next governor of the state.
According to him, Sanwo-Olu was once arrested in America for spending fake money in a nightclub.
He also alleged that he was once rehabilitated at Gbagada General Hospital in Lagos.
Although he did not mention the name Sanwo-Olu, it was obvious to everyone he was referring to his main opponent.
The embattled governor sounded like a drowning man threatening to involve in anti-party activities if they fail to make him candidate tomorrow.
Speaking against the anointed candidate of Tinubu in such a manner can only make things worse.
Nigerians have taken to the social media to react to Ambode’s outburst.
Ada Campbell, a social commentator, is surprised that Tinubu has a problem with Ambode but sees no problem with President Muhammadu Buhari. She tweeted: “Tinubu is fed up with Ambode but isn’t fed up with Buhari. Wonderful!”

Bolanle Cole, another social commentator who took to Twitter to share her view, thinks the crisis may be the downfall of Tinubu politically.
“Tinubu’s political downfall will be worse than that of late MKO Abiola. Ambode will make sure he does not go down alone. I see him working with the opposition in the future,” she said.
A member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Oluyemi Fasipe, is of the view that Ambode tried to gain public sympathy with the press conference, but ended up making things complicated for himself.
He tweeted: “Ambode will go down. He has just complicated issues for himself with the press conference. He will lose at the primary tomorrow and may also face impeachment. You don’t address issues of internal politics by trying to gain sympathy of the public. They are not the delegates.”
Abubakar Sidiq Usman, a member of the APC is also of the view that the Lagos State governor has only made things worse for himself with the press conference.
He said: “Ambode created more problems with that press conference than it would have solved. It was a needless exercise.”
