The Director, Lagos State Directorate of National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mr. Waheed Ishola, has warned that the African continent cannot cope with a refugee situation arising from Nigeria.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Next Edition, Ishola warned those fanning the embers of discord and disunity in the country to desist from their unpatriotic acts as they may not be able to control the outcome of their actions.
“We should think twice because when there’s conflagration, only God knows where and when it will end and African Union, AU and even the United Nations, UN, cannot afford a refugee situation arising from Nigeria.
“I can tell you for a fact that if the population of Alimosho Local Government alone in Lagos State, moves towards Benin Republic, they will take over government there. So Africa and the UN cannot afford a refugee situation coming out of Nigeria. We need to sort ourselves out.”
He lamented the rising insecurity and tension in the country saying politicians were partly responsible for the security challenges facing the country.
According to Ishola, most of the armed kidnappers and robbers are political touts armed and used by the politicians during elections.
He argued that since the elections are over, and the armed touts have been abandoned by their benefactors, they have no option but to turn their arms on the citizenry.
The NOA director called on all critical stake holders to join hands with the government in finding solutions to the challenges facing the nation.
He also advised the citizens to “think first as Nigerians; before thinking about the ethnic groupings or ethnic divide that we belong to.”
