The Acting Permanent Secretary Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Sekegh Akaa and his family have been confirmed dead in a fire outbreak which raised down their house at Quararafa Quarters Makurdi in the early hours of Monday.
As at the time of filing this report, the source of the fire was still unknown but neighbours who spoke to our correspondent said they heard a woman’s cry for help around 1am.
A neighbour whose house was later affected by the inferno, Mrs. Josephine Iorember said she heard a distress cry from her neighbour’s house, “Neigbours Help! Neighbours Help,” at about 1am.
She said she ran out only to see that the house was already engulfed with thick smoke and she in turn raised alarm for help.

Efforts by neighbours to put out the fire proved abortive as the fire became uncontrollable at about 3am destroying properties worth millions of naira before men of both the state and federal fire service arrived. But by then, it was too late as the whole house had been enveloped by the fire resulting in the death of four persons within the family, husband, wife and two kids.
Their bodies have already been deposited at the mortuary.
The tragic fire incident at Kwararafa also, torched the house of the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Samuel Ortom on Religion and Chaplain of Grace Chapel, Governmrnt House, Mr. Daniel Unongo.
The fire burnt down block F1 completely while block F3 and 4 suffered partial damages.
