School of the Gifted, Gwagwalada in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on Thursday emerged best in a debate organised by Junior Chamber International (JCI).
The topic of the debate is: “Should Social Media Be Encouraged Among Secondary Students?”
NAN reports that 10 FCT Government Secondary Schools from Kubwa, Abaji, Dutse Alhaji, Tupechi, Mabuchi, Jabi, Kwali, Maitama and Gwagwalada participated in the competition.
Two students represented each of the school in the debate, the lead debate and the assistance.
However, the school of the Gifted which emerged best in the competition argued in favour of the topic while Government Secondary School Mabushi, which came second argued against the topic.
Also, Government Girl Secondary School, Dutse, which came third in the competition argued in favour of the topic.
The best school was presented with a laptop and N100, 000 and the second position was given a laptop and N75, 000 while the third position was presented with a laptop and N50, 000 cash.

Mr. Oluwaseun Owa, the National Executive Vice President, JCI, Nigeria said that nobody was a loser in the debate, urging that Social Media among students should be regulated.
He said that the debate was timely because there had been a lot of abuses in the use of social media, while calling for restriction among secondary school students.
According to him, there is a lot of advantages in the use of social media like during the COVID-19 pandemic most schools have to resort to the use of social media for learning.
He stated that the winner or loser sure had something to gain with the use of social medal.(NAN)
