Two hundred and fourteen lives have so far been lost in the year 2018 through road crashes.
The Ogun Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, disclosed this on Thursday at the launch of Ember Months campaign orgainsed by the command in collaboration with the Shell Nigeria.
The theme of the campaign is Safe Driving, Safe Arrival.
Oladele, also said that vehicles impounded for violating traffic regulations at construction sites would not be released until January next year.
According to him, this year had been most challenging for FRSC as road crashes were on the increase.
He disclosed that for every two deaths that occurred during a crash this year, one of them occurred at construction sites.
“This development is alarming because the 214 lives lost so far this year was more than that of 2017 figure which was 210,” he said.

Furthermore, he said more than half of the crashes that occurred at various construction sites in the state could be traced to speeding.
He pleaded with motorists to drive with caution at construction sites as vehicles arrested for speeding and over taking would be impounded.
He said: “Motorists should not speed above 50 Km per hour at construction sites to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.”
The Sector Commander commended both the federal and state governments for the construction of roads across the state.
Sango-Ota Unit Commander of FRSC, Adekunle Oguntoyinbo, in his comments, noted that the campaign came at the right time as the global attention was focused on road crashes.
He said road crashes had caused immense damage to human and economic resources of the nation and advised that as the festive period approaches, motorists must ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before embarking on any trip.
His words: “Motorists should ensure that their vehicles meet up with minimum safety standards before putting them on the road.
“Their brake system and horn must be in goodcondition and also desist from using expired tyres.”
Oguntoyinbo said the commission was commitment to working with all stakeholders to reduce crashes and make the highways safer for the people.
