Burna Boy Wins Best International Act at 2019 BET Awards

Nigerian artiste, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has won the ‘Best International Act’ award for the 2019 BET Awards, which took place at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday June 23, 2019.

Burna Boy was nominated along side five other African artistes including Mr. Eazi (Nigeria), Aka (South Africa), Aya Nakamura (France), Dave (U.K.), Dosseh (France) and Giggs (U.K.) for the Best International Act.

Although Burna Boy was at the event, he stepped out before the award was announced and had to be represented by his mother, Bose Ogulu who also doubles as his manager.

“Thank you very much BET, thank you, Africa. That is the constituency for which we got noticed. The message from Burna would be that every black person should please remember that you were Africans before you became anything else,” she said.

BET Awards also gave late rapper, Nipsey Hussle, a Humanitarian Award for the work he did to help the people in need before his untimely death.

Female rapper, Cardi B, won the Album of the Year, Tyler Perry was awarded with the Ultimate Icon Award and Rihanna presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
