Violent Clashes: Taraba Govt Imposes Curfew on Jalingo

Following the eruption of violent clashes on Monday evening in some communities in Kona and ATC areas near Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, Gov. Darius Ishaku, has announced the imposition of curfew on Jalingo.

The curfew will take effect from 4:00 pm to 6:00 am daily till further notice.

This was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Dan Abu, in a statement issued on Monday evening.He said: “In view of the fresh outbreak of crisis in some communities in Kona and ATC near Jalingo, the Taraba government has decided to impose a curfew on Jalingo and all the affected communities with immediate effect.

“The curfew is from 4:00pm to 6:00 am daily and it remains in force until further notice.”

The statement further noted that security agencies in the state had been directed to ensure strict enforcement and compliance with the curfew and quick return of peace to the affected communities.

Recall that violent clashes had earlier erupted in the communities on Sunday, but were arrested by security agencies only for it to resurface on Monday evening, with the invaders allegedly shooting indiscriminately and burning houses.

The clashes led many villagers from the affected communities to flee to different parts of Jalingo.
